Pakistan is one of the few countries with such a dynamic landscape; rivers, deserts, lakes, waterfalls, springs, glaciers we seem to have it all in great abundance. Allah Almighty has blessed Pakistan with aesthetic and natural beauty. It has a lot of places which are deadly covered with beautiful scenes. Such glamorous and wonderful scenes make a person think about Allah’s glory and creativity.

Hunza is among the most beautiful areas of Pakistan. Hunza was often known as ‘Heaven on Earth’ is a beautiful mountainous valley. It is located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region which is in the extreme northern part that connects China with Pakistan

The main town of Hunza, Karimabad (formerly known as Baltit) is the capital as well as most popular tourist destination of Hunza. As famous as the valley is for its beauty, the people of Hunza are also well-known for their friendliness and hospitality. Hunza’s tourist season is generally from May to October, because in winter the Karakoram Highway is often blocked by the snow

The valley has different beautiful natural sights which are the attractions for tourists. Among these attractions the Baltit and Altit fort are also well known. The Baltit fort, after renovation, has recently been turned into heritage museum. In Hunza, the bazaar of Karimbad is famous for its local handicrafts, handmade rugs, traditional embroidered caps, shawls, hand woven cloth (paffu) and its gemstones which are famous all over the world, particularly Ruby. The Ruby mines are famous tourist attractions.

The Altit Fort is the oldest fort in northern areas which is located in the Altit village. It is built with great architectural design on a rock of a mountain where the Hunza River flows at its back.

Baltit Fort is another beautiful fort in the Hunza valley which is built at the top of Karimabad. It has won numerous awards including Tourism of Tomorrow Award, Asia-Pacific Heritage for Cultural Conservation- Award of Excellence (UNESCO). The Time Magazine of Asia awarded Best of Asia Award in 2005.

Just like the valley is known for its scenic beauty, the people of Hunza are warm hearted and known for their hospitality.

The people of Hunza are known as the Hunzakuts who are fair-skinned and speak the almost unknown language Burushaski but majority of the people also understand Urdu and English. You will find that you are always welcomed in the hotels, restaurants, cafés, and homes of the people of Hunza valley. One of the best parts of visiting the valley for me was to get to know about the history and culture of the locals there.

There is no better way to experience the authentic local culture in the Hunza Valley than sharing a meal with a local family. Having the chance to eat local Hunza food with an amazing community of people was a privilege, and it turned out to be – even greater than the beauty of the mountains themselves – the highlight of visiting Hunza Valley.

The climate of Hunza is moderate in summer. The maximum temperature in summer is about 14-degree Celsius but in July-august it reaches a maximum of 31-degree Celsius in central Hunza. In the winter season, the temperature reaches to -10-degree Celsius or even more.

Pakistan has been blessed with beautiful locations throughout the country and Hunza sure is one of them. It remains very famous, for its scenic beauty and unique culture, with the locals as well as the foreigners.
